On Wednesday, November 8th, Adelante of Suffolk County, Inc. (Adelante), a not-for-profit agency with a focus to inspire forward movement in the lives of the diverse people of the community they serve, was presented with a $10,000 donation by AT&T.  The purpose of the contribution is to support a college preparation program that helps underserved high school students prepare for post-secondary education by offering campus tours and assistance with the college application and financial aid processes.

“We are thankful to AT&T for this generous donation,” said Olga El-Sehamy, Director, Adelante.  “The fact that AT&T saw the value of our education program, and awarded us this contribution, shows us that we at Adelante are doing the right thing for the community,” she continued.

“AT&T is committed to ensuring that students from every community have the guidance and skills required to apply to and succeed in college,” said Marissa Shorenstein, President, East Region, AT&T. “Adelante provides critical educational services to students in underserved communities in Suffolk County, and we are proud to support their work. Together, we hope to provide more students with a fair shot at a college degree, so that they can one day pursue a career in their chosen field.”

Adelante’s mission to inspire forward movement, and improve the quality of life for people in the predominantly Hispanic communities of Bayshore, Brentwood and Central Islip is accomplished by providing many support programs.  Among them are educational assistance, tutoring, college prep for students, and  development of youth through leadership and mentoring programs.

AT&T’s support for Adelante is part of the company’s legacy of supporting educational programs focused on STEM disciplines in New York through AT&T Aspire, the company’s signature $400 million philanthropic initiative that drives innovation in education by bringing diverse resources to bear on the issue including funding, technology, employee volunteerism and mentoring.  Aspire is one of the nation’s largest corporate commitments focused on school success and workforce readiness by creating new learning environments and educational delivery systems to help students succeed and prepare them to take on 21st century careers
