The FREE Players Return Talent Show is the talk of the town!

September 1, 2021 | News

On August 25, 2021, the FREE Players had two talent shows, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.  Staff began planning for the show with the participants all the way back in June, picking out songs and routines to perform.  In July, Catherine, the Theater Specialist for the program, began rehearsing with the performers individually and was so impressed with their weekly progress, not to mention the final results!

From start to finish, the Talent Show audiences were treated to an overwhelming amount of talent.  The program, covered in participant artwork, greeted them with a beautiful glimpse into the show ahead.  The shows themselves were filled with singers, dancers, drummers, piano players, and ASL performer, and even a performer doing basketball tricks! The shows were performed to standing-room-only crowds and the reception was amazing.  The cheers echoed through the multi-purpose room after each performance and the smiles on the performers’ faces could have lit up the entire building!

We asked a few of the performers how they felt about the event. They were so excited to talk about it. Leah said “I’ve performed a lot in the past and I think this is the greatest performance we’ve ever had. Taylor spoke to us about the event and crowd reaction, “I liked having mom and papi with me and everyone else cheering for me.  I liked singing ‘Poker Face’.  My favorite part was sining, dancing, and singing Lady Gaga ‘Poker Face’ and having everybody, the whole crowd, you know.  I hope we could do this again. Finally Ricky who was an Assistant Director told us “I liked the rehearsals and the performances.  It was actually pretty cool to do that.  Helping out was my favorite part.”

Keep an eye out for the next FREE Players performance.  You won’t want to miss it!
