The New York State Achieving a Better Life Experience (NY ABLE) Act allows New York State residents with disabilities to save for disability expenses without the risk of losing their benefits from assistance programs like SSI, Medicaid, HUD and others. NYABLE accounts allow individuals and their families to save for disability-related expenses on a tax-free basis. Qualified Disability Expenses include housing, transportation, employment training, personal support and other expenses that are intended to improve the account owner’s quality of life. Anyone can contribute to a NY ABLE account, and there are many ways to contribute. An account can be opened for as little as $25 – or just $15 when investing through a payroll deduction plan.
