Fancy FREE... a gift shop where program participants gain confidence and independence by becoming valued and contributing members of the community.
The opening of Fancy FREE Day Habilitation brought a long-term agency vision to fruition, by not only having program participants in the community, but more importantly, by becoming a viable part of the community. Fancy FREE is a place where people with developmental disabilities can learn and grow by working hands-on in a retail environment, crafting merchandise and interacting with their neighbors.
Fancy FREE Day Habilitation is located in the Fancy FREE gift shop on Main Street in Farmingdale. Program participants learn inventory skills, create displays, stock shelves and gain valuable technical and social skills by working the register or assisting customers as they browse through an eclectic mix of unique gifts, hand crafted jewelry, toys and accessories. Some work behind the scenes creating hand-crafted items.
Fancy Free is where you go out in the community at times. We go to the nursing home on Mondays to keep the residents company. We do art therapy twice a week. Meals-on-wheels is one of our Friday selections. We do the bread sale twice a week. We do spot sales once in a while at Old Bethpage Building.

All proceeds from sales at Fancy FREE support FREE in its nonprofit mission – to help people of all abilities realize their full potential and prevail over life’s challenges.
Our daughter, Donna has been very lucky to have been picked to attend Fancy Free. The program and store are an asset to the Village of Farmingdale. Donna grows and learns something new each day. The staff of Fancy Free continues to work very hard in helping our daughter and other consumers to become important members in the community.
