Art Therapy
Art Therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of self expression to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self esteem and self awareness and achieve insight. Our art therapists along with students and interns provide a wide range of offerings that allow individuals to experience the creative process of fine art making…. no matter what their skill level may appear to be. Art Therapy is an integral dimension of our Day Habilitation and Respite Services and in its work with Fancy Free, opening up opportunities for our Artists to show, sell their work and interact with the community in an entirely new and exciting way!

HEARTS Art Show for the Month of May 2010
The Hearts Art Show is our special exhibition of artwork created by individuals participating in our Art Therapy programming for Day Habilitation Services in Islandia and Fancy Free. The artists represented are a courageous group of people who, in spite of their challenges took the risk to “talk to us” through the hidden language of images, colors and symbols as they relate to the concept of love, and the emotional heart that we all share.
The images on view are a testament to healing power of art as psychotherapy as our artists have focused on love and touched feelings of safety, trust and understanding, creating an opportunity to send their love out into our world, as they eagerly await our response.
It is an honor to work with the spirit of our family of FREE Artists, and the future of our humanity.
Enjoy the show!
