Family Residences facilitates an employment program to assist individuals secure competitive jobs. The program serves people with developmental disabilities and those with dual diagnoses of developmental disabilities and psychiatric illness. This type of assistance offers many benefits not only to the employers, but to the employees who work for them. This program enables the individuals to secure, maintain, and advance in the competitive job of their choosing. Additionally, it allows them to take part in the work routines as well as the social interactions of other employees. Individuals who are placed in a particular position are supported by a job coach. The job coach offers each employee direct supervision on a one-on-one basis at the community job sites until complete independence at the job site is gained.
