The need for specialized information and training to better address the needs of individuals with dual diagnosis has long been a concern among providers throughout New York City and Long Island. The Developmental Disabilities Planning Council has awarded a grant to the Downstate Center of Excellence for Dual Diagnosis to develop a self-sustaining way to address this need.
A Steering Committee has been formed to shape and coordinate project objectives. This oversight team consists of five agencies, including Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. The committee is also charged with coordinating project activities with the NYS Development Disabilities Planning Council and with two other State based Centers for Excellence.
