FREE Presents New Speaker’s Bureau

"FREE Your Mind" Speaker’s Bureau is a unique and innovative opportunity that FREE offers to its men and woman who receive services. Individuals participate in panel discussions and presentations at local Long Island colleges/university classrooms on a variety of topics. Presentations are based on their individual stories, interests, dreams and aspirations and cover:
- disability awareness and sensitivity
- the power of positive language
- the power of advocacy
- personal perspective of living one’s life with a disability
Each of the participants designs the curriculum and distributed material given to the students. The presentations help our men and women to develop communication and socialization skills. "FREE Your Mind" Speaker’s Bureau also helps the individuals to gain confidence and self-esteem essential to promoting employ-ability.
The Speaker’s Bureau assists in promoting the field of human services as a potential career path to undergraduates/graduate students. They gain a greater understanding about a wide range of disabilities and the rewards of human service careers through hands-on experience with our men and women.
"FREE Your Mind" Speaker’s Bureau is already having a widespread impact on the Long Island Community as our men and woman are sharing their gifts and talents at several Long Island colleges and universities.
